The Lifetime Community Rating (LCR) loading applies to people 35 and over, who take out health insurance for the first time.

Our customer had been a longstanding member of an Irish health insurance provider for over a decade. After leaving Ireland to work abroad for one year, he returned and resumed his health cover with his insurance provider. The LCR was applied to his health cover, increasing his premium significantly when compared to what he had paid prior to going abroad.

Some years later, the customer approached us to find out if he could switch his cover for a more cost-effective option.

On closely reviewing the customer’s cover, our health insurance specialist realised there could be potential for significant savings on the premium.

After looking into the customer’s insurance history and working with him to recall details of his past insurance, our health insurance specialist recommended the customer ask his health cover provider for proof of his past insurance.

To make this process easier, she helped the customer write the email to his health cover provider, explaining the situation he found himself in.

When proof of the customer’s former insurance arrived, our health insurance specialist approached the health insurance provider to refund our customer the excess LCR loading he had paid.

The insurer agreed to refund the customer – to an amount close to €10,000!

This demonstrates how important it is to review policies regularly and get expert, tailored advice.

Our health insurance specialists have deep insight into the health insurance landscape in Ireland and will review each individual situation to ensure out customers get the very best value for their cover. If you have questions about the LCR, get in touch with us today to find out whether you can save on your premium.
