The new year brings with it a number of offers from health insurance companies, giving policy holders the chance to save money and access new benefits.

This is great news for customers whose renewals fall in the first three months of the new year, which is the busiest season for health insurance renewals.

There are new plans coming to the market all the time, so it pays to review your health insurance and your needs, to find out if your current plan is still a fit.

The three health insurance providers in Ireland, Laya, VHI and Irish Life Health offer more than 320 plans between them, with many offering great value for individuals and families.

Kids go free on health insurance plans

For example, Laya Healthcare’s “Kids Go Free” offer can save a family hundreds on their health insurance premium.

This offer means parents pay for the first child’s health insurance after which the remaining children are free, regardless of how many children the family has.

The offer is available until 31 March 2024 on Laya’s Essential Connect Health, Essential Health 300 and Flex 125 Explore plans, and offers access to urgent care treatment in under 60 minutes, GP video consultations and a prescription service, 24/7 phone access to counsellors, including parenting and financial experts, at no cost, cardiac screening every two years and money back on emergency dental.

Health cover for everyday medical expenses

Customers can also save money with VHI, with 5% off the insurer’s Enhanced Care 250 Day-to-Day plan.

The plan offers customers access to urgent treatment, dermatology, paediatrics and women’s health clinics, cover for everyday expenses and access to digital GPs, dietitians, and speech and language therapists.

The VHI plan also offers access to specialist clinics in paediatrics, sports and musculoskeletal and dermatology, as well as Vhi 360 Health Centres 365 days a year for urgent care, diagnostics, treatment and more.

The VHI offer is available until 31st March 2024.

Specialist health cover for women’s health

Irish Life Health is also currently taking 5% off a range of its health insurance plans, including the BeneFit plan which provides cover for public, private and high tech hospitals, emergency dental, full cover for CT MRI and PET-CT scans, unlimited digital doctor appointments and prescriptions, and access to minor injury clinics for fast and effective urgent care.

The BeneFit Plan also offers a bonus for helping you keep your new year’s fitness resolutions, with a €50 contribution to membership of a sports club, gym or towards fitness classes.

It also provides unique access to Ireland’s first-of-its-kind Female Health Consultation benefit, giving members access to specialist consultations with GPs who are experts in female health.

The benefit is not intended to replace a member’s usual GP but designed to give advice and support in the areas of menstrual health, contraception, fertility, menopause, and other areas of female health.

If follow-up face-to-face appointments, tests or screens have been recommended, the member can make an appointment with a Centric Health GP or with their own GP.
